Goodbye 2008, Hello 2009!
Every year I like to take assessment of the previous 12 months and decide whether the year was, overall, a success. 2008 had an unusual number of peaks and valleys so here now are some of the high and low lights of my 2008:
High: Ringing in the new year on a beach in Thailand with my sister!
Low: Almost dying on a boat ride from hell the next morning.
High: Getting a promotion at work!

It’s New Year’s Eve and I’m hitting the town. I’ve been working on my witty repartee all week so that I’ll be prepared to dazzle the men I encounter with my sassy minxeyness. If I can capture even half of the sexxxiness of the nurse in this video I know one thing for sure. I won’t be going home alone tonight!

Things I'm Probably too Old for But Insist on...
1. Telling poop jokes. I don’t care how old I get, I’ll always find them funny.
2. Shopping at Urban Outfitters. Where else am I supposed to get doucheholey scarves and too tight black jeans?
3. Facebook, and even more so, Facebook flirting. I should really just be honest and join match.com shouldn’t I?
4. Playing video games. I don’t know if it’s cooler or...
Strike!
If I were in SAG I’d vote no on the strike. Why, you ask? Just take a look at the lists below:
Actors AGAINST the SAG Strike: George Clooney, Tom Hanks, Matt Damon, Russell Crowe, Sally Field, Robert Redford, Julianne Moore and Susan Sarandon are among those encouraging other members to vote no, saying a strike in the midst of a recession would be ill-timed.
Actors FOR the SAG Strike:...
Who's Watching the Watchmen?
Apparently it could be no body now that Fox has won their case claiming distribution rights to the property even though WB just made the movie. At least I’ve finished working on the film. After all the long nights working on this show I think I would have had a breakdown if they pulled the plug half way through production. It will be a shame if this doesn’t get released though....

Worst Song Lyrics of 2008
Via Salon:
Usher, “Trading Places”: “Skip dinner and gon’ rent a movie / You order Chinese food right before you do me.”
It’s this kind of smooth talking that seals Usher’s permanent spot as the Justin Timberlake of 1994.
Nickelback, “Something in Your Mouth”: “You look so much cuter with something in your mouth.”
Huh. I want my...
Things I've Eaten Even Though I Should Have Known...
- Macaroni salad that sat in a trunk for 4 hours in the Summer
- Taco Bell
- Eggs that were left out on a counter overnight
- Sour cream almost a month past its expiration date
- And today…Togo’s egg salad
OH! So THAT’s why I’m still single. I haven’t been carrying around a small stuffed animal, spilling drinks on men, or acting like a vapid dip shit. Silly me! Thanks to this video from Holy Taco I’ll be getting married in 2009 for sure!
Gran Tarino, Best Comedy of the Year?
Abso-fucking-luetly.
WTF?
Uh, did anyone else in LA just feel an earthquake or am I on crack?
Wow. American advertisers have got it wrong. THIS is how you sell stuff. I don’t know what they’re selling exactly but I’m sure I need at least 4 of whatever it is. Note this commercial is NSFW unless your boss is a fan of the mammorytastic!

Valkyrie is Stinky
I attended a press screening of “Valkyrie” last night. A few thoughts:
1. This movie isn’t as bad as I expected. Personal feelings and Superman aside, Bryan Singer is not a bad director. That being said…
2. The casting of Tom Cruise was a huge misstep and quite frankly ruins the movie. As ridiculous as I find the convention of having actors speak with British...
The Bush is Back!
Finally! According to this article from Salon pubes are making a come back. I’ve always toyed with the idea of going full wooley down below. This usually lasts a couple of weeks before I freak out and head to the waxing salon. Now that 70’s porn bush is back in style though I might just let ‘er grow! You know, just to be trendy and all. And why not? I’m single and...
It's Nice to be Wanted
I was just contacted by a recruiter at ILM asking if I’d be interested in talking about coming to work for them. Happily I have a job that will carry me through at least April (and in all likelihood further) so I was able to decline. It’s nice to know though that even in this time or recession and layoffs I got the skillz to pay the billz. God it feels good to be at a point in my...
Taking on Important Issues
Today a co-worker sent me an article that poses the question, “Does having sex with a robot constitute cheating?” Here is the conversation that followed:
cfxegbert: It depends if you catch something. Is having sex with a robot dog beastiality? juliag: i’d say no juliag: a robot is a robot juliag: it’s robot sex juliag: and it’s cheating juliag: or at least...

It’s a sad state that given the utter oversaturation of worthless drivel clogging the airwaves real talent is now falling into obscurity. I hate the fact that anyone with a camera can call themself a...
HOLY SHITBALLS!!! Ever wonder how to make zombies even more rad? How about making them Nazis??? That’s just what Tommy Wirkola director of the upcoming “Dead Snow” did. With a tag line like “EIN, ZWEI, DIE!” you know I’m going to have to see this.

And the Best Picture Oscar Goes To...
Well I just got back from a screening of “Frost/Nixon” at the TV Academy and I can say with some certainty that this will win Best Picture at this year’s Oscars. Ron Howard may not be breaking any new ground as a director here but you gotta give it to the guy. He is one talented mo-fo. The performances are excellent and the pacing is any editorial nut’s wet dream....
When Life Becomes a Little More Sad Yet Wonderous
I came home tonight to 2 discoveries that made me both happy and sad at the same time:
1. Netflix now has movies on demand for Mac. This makes me happy because now I can stream movies whenever I want. This makes me sad because it will inevitably contribute to my lifestyle of hermitude.
2. I got a coupon in the mail from Domino’s for a free pizza. This makes me happy because I get...
The ultimate personality test
bullshit:
It’s not strange to disagree about movies that are wildly different, and there are surely a few random movies that are very polarizing. What I find most interesting is which movie people consider the best movie from a particular director, as it is usually very telling and polarizing in a different way, so to this point I will propose a new personality test where you reblog your...
